Alicia Torres joined the Inner Resources practicum in 2019. Alicia is currently a second-year PhD student in Clinical Psychology with an emphasis in meditation. Alicia’s research interest is investigating the therapeutic benefits of mindfulness and meditation on serious mental illness and dissociation. Alicia’s research on mindfulness and meditation began in 2017 as a McNair Scholar at St. Edward’s University. In 2018, Alicia published an article in the McNair Scholars Program Research Journal, which investigates the therapeutic effects of mindful coloring, meditation, and coloring only on anxiety.
Alicia’s previous clinical experience includes working with adults and older adults with serious mental illness in a group home setting. Alicia currently works with patients with serious mental illness, trauma-related disorders, personality disorders, anxiety disorders, and substance use disorders in an outpatient clinic. Alicia aspires to teach mindfulness and meditation skills to those who have a serious mental illness or trauma-related disorders.
